What To Avoid When Setting Up An Online Dating Profile

In today's world, it can be tough navigating the dating scene. The older you get, the harder it is to meet somebody that lives up to the standards you expect from a potential spouse.

This problem has caused many to move away from meeting people in bars or other social areas and instead turn to online dating. Whether you choose one of the mainstream websites or a more sophisticated matchmaker in Las Vegas, you need to understand the things you should avoid when setting up your dating profile.

Avoid Cliché Headlines

When you add a headline or catchphrase to your profile along the lines of, "Your mother warned you about me," or "I'm the one for you," it may not come off the way you intended. Not only will these types of cliché phrases make you sound like everybody else, they are also not a proper representation of you.

You are dealing with a ton of competition in the online dating world and you need to stand out. Avoid the one-liner headlines and choose something unique and genuine for your dating profile.

Inaccurate Pictures

One of the biggest mistakes commonly made on dating profiles is having a picture that doesn't accurately illustrate what you actually look like. When you misrepresent yourself with only the most flattering camera angles, old pictures or any other type of photo that doesn't properly show who you are, you're asking for trouble.

There's nothing worse than showing up for a first date, only to find out the person you expected to see has gained 50 pounds or looks way different in person than in their pictures. Along with choosing appropriate pictures, it's a good idea to add a couple images that showcase your personality. This could be something funny or a picture of you in action doing something you love. These types of pictures allow potential mates to relate to who you are and not just what you look like.

Topless or Revealing Pictures

Guys posting pictures of themselves without a shirt are asking for women to skip over their profile. In the same way, a woman posting revealing pictures will struggle to attract a decent guy. These types of pictures are simply unnecessary and will do more harm than good.

These are just a few of the things you should be careful not to do when setting up your dating profile. The more truthful you are, the better chance you will have of actually finding the one person you can spend your life with.
